6. Setup è Installazione
Follow these steps for proper installation of your Sobo SF-650F external canister filter:
- Prepare Filter Unit:

Figura 6.1: This image shows the initial steps of filter setup, including how to open the lid, insert the filter media baskets, and securely close the unit.
- Open the fixing buckles on the lid and carefully lift off the lid.
- Remove the filter material baskets. Rinse any new filter media (e.g., ceramic rings, bio-balls) thoroughly with clean water before placing them into the baskets. Ensure the black and white filter cotton pads are correctly positioned.
- Place the filter material baskets back into the filter unit in the correct order.
- Replace the lid, ensuring it is properly seated, and secure all fixing buckles firmly.
- Connect Hoses and Pipes:

Figura 6.2: This image details the process of connecting the inlet and outlet pipes to the filter and aquarium, adjusting the water flow rate, and using the handle for self-priming.
- Connect the flexible hoses to the water inlet and outlet ports on the filter lid. Rotate the nuts to fix them securely, ensuring no leaks.
- Attach the rigid inlet and outlet pipes to the other ends of the flexible hoses.
- Position the inlet and outlet pipes inside your fish tank using the provided suction cups and clips. Ensure the inlet pipe is submerged and the outlet pipe is positioned to create good water circulation.
- Prepare Aquarium Water Level:
- Add water to your fish tank until the distance between the water surface and the edge of the tank is less than 12 cm. The filter unit should be placed such that its outer barrel is approximately 40 cm below the water surface for optimal operation.
- Adjust Flow Rate and Prime the Filter:
- Ensure the flow rate adjustment lever on the filter lid is set to the maximum position (indicated as 'Big' or 100).
- To prime the filter, pull the handle on the filter lid up and push it down 2-4 times. This action will suck water from the aquarium into the filter unit, initiating the self-priming process. Continue until water flows smoothly through the filter.
- Power On:
- Once the filter is primed and water is flowing, plug the power cord into a suitable electrical outlet. The filter should start operating.

7. Operating Instructions
Once installed and primed, the Sobo SF-650F filter operates continuously to maintain water quality. You can adjust the water flow rate as needed:
- Adjusting Water Flow: The filter features an adjustable flow rate mechanism. Use the lever on the filter lid to increase or decrease the water flow. Move the lever towards 'Big' for maximum flow and towards 'Small' for reduced flow. Adjust according to your aquarium's specific requirements and fish species.
- Prestazione di monitoraghju: Regularly observe the water clarity and flow rate. A decrease in flow rate often indicates that the filter media requires cleaning or replacement.

Figura 7.1: This diagram illustrates the water flow through the filter, from intake to outlet, highlighting the placement of the black and white filter cotton for multi-stage filtrazione.
8. Mantenimentu
Una manutenzione regulare hè cruciale per una prestazione ottimale è a longevità di u vostru filtru. Scollegate sempre u filtru prima di fà qualsiasi manutenzione.
- Smontaggio per a pulizia:
- Unplug the filter from the power outlet.
- Use the valve block for quick release to shut off water flow and detach the hose assembly from the filter lid. This minimizes spills.
- Open the fixing buckles and remove the filter lid.
- Carefully lift out the filter media baskets.
- Cleaning Filter Media:
- Rinse mechanical filter media (e.g., filter cotton/pads) thoroughly with old aquarium water (from a water change) to preserve beneficial bacteria. Replace heavily soiled or degraded filter pads.
- Rinse biological media (e.g., ceramic rings, bio-balls) gently with old aquarium water. Avoid tap water as chlorine can kill beneficial bacteria.
- Clean the impeller and impeller housing located in the filter head. Remove any debris or buildup that may impede its rotation.
- Riassemblaggio:
- Place the cleaned or new filter media back into the baskets in the correct order.
- Reinsert the baskets into the filter unit.
- Replace the lid, ensuring a tight seal, and secure all fixing buckles.
- Reconnect the hose assembly to the filter lid and open the valve block to restore water flow.
- Restarting the Filter:
- Follow the priming steps outlined in Section 6.4 to remove any air from the system.
- Plug the filter back into the power outlet.
9. Risoluzione di prublemi
If you encounter issues with your Sobo SF-650F filter, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- Filter Not Starting:
- Verificate s'ellu u cavu di alimentazione hè bè inseritu in una presa di corrente funzionale.
- Ensure the filter is properly primed and filled with water. Repeat the priming process (Section 6.4).
- Inspect the impeller for any obstructions or damage. Clean if necessary.
- Flussu d'acqua riduttu:
- Check if the flow rate adjustment lever is set to maximum (Section 7).
- The filter media may be clogged. Perform maintenance and clean or replace filter pads (Section 8).
- Inspect hoses and pipes for kinks or blockages.
- Pulite a girante è u so alloggiamentu.
- Sonu eccessivu:
- Air trapped in the filter system can cause noise. Re-prime the filter to expel air (Section 6.4).
- Check if the impeller is properly seated and free of debris. A damaged impeller can also cause noise.
- Ensure the filter unit is placed on a stable, level surface to prevent vibrations.
- Fuite:
- Check all hose connections and ensure nuts are tightened securely.
- Ensure the filter lid is properly seated and all fixing buckles are firmly closed.
- Inspect the O-ring seal around the filter head for damage or improper placement. Clean and lubricate the O-ring if necessary.
